Quote of the Day
"Hope is the expectation of better things- a polio free world without hunger, universal peace. It is the spark that keeps a man going, whatever his station. Without it, life is nothing more than existence in despair." M.A.T. Caparas, Manila, Philippines
RI President, 1986-87

HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
The Woodbury Lunch and Breakfast Clubs have united for the purpose of raising funds to provide one ShelterBox for Haitian Earthquake Relief . A ShelterBox cost $1,000.00 delivered to the recipient. This is an unfunded challenge that we’ve accepted. Pres Jim and the members present at Tuesday's lunch meeting agreed to solicit the membership to raise our $500.00 share. The membership recommended that a $25 per member will reach our $500.00 goal

The word partnering is used over and over by Rotary's leaders. Until PolioPlus, Rotary International had, for the most part, chosen to "fly solo" in its service projects. The United Nations could not eradicate polio. Rotary certainly could not have. But when UN agencies WHO and UNICEF, Rotary, and CDC joined hands, miracles began to occur. The future of Rotary will almost certainly include more such alliances

| Business Note of the Day |

This is an 1883 chromolithography of the Brooklyn Bridge, which connects Manhattan Island to Brooklyn. It was the first land passage between the two boroughs. On its opening on May 24, 1883, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time and its towers were the tallest structures in the Western Hemisphere. Twenty seven people died during the construction of the $15.5- million bridge.

~ Memorial Day - Let Us Not Forget ~
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I. Many people observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. local time. Another tradition is to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff from dawn until noon local time. Volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at National Cemeteries.
At 3:00 p.m. don't forget to take a moment and remember those who served and those who gave their lives for our freedom.
