Today's Program

"West Jersey 1609-1702"

Warren gave another of his excellent history presentations. This one dealt with the history of southern New Jersey starting from just before and until just after the beginning of the colonial period. Warren outlined how world events of the 17th and 18th century influenced the demographics of our little part of the world.

Quote of the Day

"Two dear children, Luis Fermin of Peru and Mum Chanty of Cambodia, represent the last cases of polio in their regions of the world. They symbolize our historic victories over polio. One of my fondest memories of Rotary was giving precious polio vaccine to small children... In my mind, the good old days are today, thanks to the incredible achievements of Polio Plus."

William T. Sergeant Chairman International PolioPlus Committee

HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
The Woodbury Lunch and Breakfast Clubs have united for the purpose of raising funds to provide one ShelterBox for Haitian Earthquake Relief . A ShelterBox cost $1,000.00 delivered to the recipient.  This is an unfunded challenge that we’ve accepted. Pres Jim and the members present at Tuesday's lunch meeting agreed to solicit the membership to raise our $500.00 share. The membership recommended that a $25 per member will reach our $500.00 goal

Business Note of the Day

There have been many hurricanes and huge storms that have hit the small island of Sea Isle City, New Jersey. The storms of the 1890's, 1920's, and the 1944 Great Atlantic Hurricane have been some of the worst natural disasters to hit the coast of New Jersey.

The Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962, a major Nor'easter that hit on March 6, 1962, tops all other storms that have hit the area in the recent past. The storm lasted three days of continuous rain. It was categorized as a "100- year storm." Almost every beach front home or property was destroyed or damaged. Many people evacuated in time to save their lives, but came back to find their homes and assets destroyed. Eventually, the only way out of town was the causeway, and when that flooded, rescuers had to use helicopters to evacuate the rest of the town. The storms caused beach front businesses and homes to move back from the shoreline an average of one block.

 Phase II

 of Rotary Park upgrade

is underway

This phase will entail raising funds to install a monument as a recognition for our nation's sons and daughters who served our Country:  Past, Present, Peacetime, Wartime, Killed, or Survived.

Two Thoughts for the Week

Booker T. Washington:
Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.

William A. Ward:

Before you speak, listen. Before you write, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you invest, investigate. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try. Before you I retire, save. Before you die, give.
