Event: Santo Domingo Orphanage
Date: Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 09:00 - 03:00
Location: Energy Resources [View Map]
4222 Route 130
Willingboro, NJ, 08046

Details: OUR KIDS NEED OUR HELP

160 Children in our orphanage in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, desperately need our help. They depend on us to send them food and other necessities in a 40' container each year. This year we are packing the container on Saturday, November 21st to sustain these needy children for another year. We are desperately short of supplies. Click here for list

PLEASE have your Rotary make a donation or an additional donation or consider making a personal donation to feed the children in OUR orphanage; the orphanage that we built in 1985. We can purchase nearly 200 pounds of pinto beans or almost 350 pounds of rice for only $100. We still have time to purchase bulk food items and get them into the container.

When Bernadette Jennings became our District Governor, she stated "It is our children who are the most susceptible to the ravages of poverty and hunger. It is our children who sustain the deepest wounds from violence, abuse and neglect. It is our children who are most at the mercy of the adult world. And it is our children who have the least control over their lives." Although our economic situation in the United States is not good, we are reaching out to the world's poorest of the poor in the Dominican Republic.

PLEASE HELP !

Give your checks to President Jim or mail to:

Rotary District 7640 District Office
Bank of America - 2nd Floor

Thank you.

Rotary Factoid

One thing is certain: the demographics of the Rotary club of the future will be nothing like the "rich old men" stereotype of the past. Rotarians will be younger and more ethnically diverse, and will have higher percentages of women in their clubs. "I was against the idea of women joining Rotary; I was wrong in taking such a position," admits 1984-85 RI President Carlos Canseco, from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. "Women have brought new life to Rotary. Every club that has female members is more active, more committed, has more vitality than those without. It took us too many years to realize we were wrong."

Business Note of the Day

Centuries ago, purchasing real estate often required having one or more limbs amputated in order to prevent the purchaser from running away to avoid repayment of the loan. Hence an expensive purchase was said to cost" an arm and a leg."

And

Touch-tone telephone keypads were originally planned to have buttons for Police and Fire Departments, but they were replaced with * and # when the project was cancelled in favor of developing the 911 system.

 Phase II

 of Rotary Park upgrade

is underway

This phase will entail raising funds to install a monument as a recognition for our nation's sons and daughters who served our Country:  Past, Present, Peacetime, Wartime, Killed, or Survived.

"Some gave all, all gave some."
