ROTARY INTERNATIONAL / UNITED NATIONS DAY

This year Rotary international UN Day will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Registration will begin at 8:00am and the program will begin at 9:30am and last until 4:00pm. The registration fee is $37.50 for adults $20.00 for Rotaract, and $17.50 for students. We have again designed a special program for Young Rotarian of high school age. The program will run from 9:30am to 12:00noon.

The event will be held in the new temporary building located on the north lawn. The new facility is a little smaller so we will not be able to accommodate as many participants as we have in the past. We don't want anyone to be disappointed so please make your reservation early. Last year we had to turn away over 500 Rotarians and Guests. This unique opportunity will offer a visit to United Nations Headquarters in New York City and participation in panel discussions featuring leaders and officials from the United Nations, United Nations affiliated Non Governmental Organizations (NGO's) and Rotary International.

Lunch is included and will be served in the main United Nations Cafeteria overlooking the East River. Public parking is available nearby. You will be able to register online using http://riunday2010.eventbrite.com/.

IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE

In the good old days, prior to 1990, our district contained seven counties and we were known as RI District 764. In 1990, in a world wide Rotary International reorganization, we lost Burlington County and we became District 7640. Our District Logo never reflected this change. As you can see our new logo will keep the same basic design with our southern counties accented on the state of New Jersey. This also seems to be the right time to change light houses. The new one will represent our own Cape May Light replacing the "Bodie Island Lighthouse" located in Nags Head, N.C.

PRESIDENT ANTHONY'S MESSAGE

Dear Woodbury Rotarians:

Hello and welcome to what I view as our last meeting of the summer. And now that vacation time is over, the real work of Rotary begins. We have our annual car show this weekend, Saturday September 4th. I look forward to a great event and would like to thank all of our volunteers ahead of time. Some other great events are on the horizon including the Community Yard Sale, Rotary Park Cleanup, Woodbury Fall Parade, and Christmas for Kids. If you are not already signed up for one of these events, please do so when the sheet comes around during today's meeting.

I would like to thank Justin Altman for taking over the Press Relations position and already doing a fantastic job. If you saw last Friday's paper, our current Rotarian of the Quarter, Ken McIlvaine was featured.

This week I would like to leave you with a "thought of the week".

"The world is a great mirror. It reflects back to you what you are. If you are loving, if you are friendly, if you are helpful, the world will prove loving and friendly and helpful to you. The world is what you are." Thomas Dreier

In The Name of Rotary,

President Anthony

INTERESTING STUFF

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes, the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the phrase...'Goodnight, sleep tight'
